Two Year Discharge Monitoring Contract Awarded by Rijkswaterstaat
Aqua Vision has been awarded by Rijkswaterstaat Department East-Netherlands a two year contract for regular discharge measurements. This means we will continue the regular discharge measurements at the Dutch rivers Waal and IJssel and now will also be doing measurements at the Meuse river. Besides we are stand-by for daily discharge measurements during any high water event in the Netherlands. This means we will increase our fleet to a total of 5 ships.

Tidal sediment measurements at the Afsluitdijk
Three nightly 13-hour measurements were performed at the sluice-complex of Kornwerderzand in the Afsluitdijk by order of Haskoning BV. The measurement results will be used by Haskoning to advice Rijkswaterstaat on a new sediment managament plan. Our fully equipped survey vessel MS Walrus was used for the measurements.

Measurement Campaign at Harbour of IJmuiden
Aqua Vision organised a measurement campaign at the outer harbour of IJmuiden by order of Rijkswaterstaat, department North-Holland. The measurements involved three ships: Aqua Vision s MS Walrus and MS Griend and the Rijkswaterstaat ship MS Breesem. Measured parameters were currents, salinity and turbidity and depth. The depth was succesfully measured using our newly purchased Kongsberg EA400 dual frequency echo-sounder system.

Discharge Measurements on the Schelde
Aqua Vision assisted Flanders Hydraulics with their annual discharge and sediment flux measurements at six cross sections at the Schelde and Rupel rivers in Belgium. Aqua Vision personnel performed the measurement at the three downstream locations. For the three upstream locations, Aqua Vision rented an ALTUS GPS system with internal UMTS modem allowing RTK measurements by connecting to the FLEPOS network. The GPS was mounted on the Riverboat.

Discharge Measurements for Rijkswaterstaat on the Waal River
By order of Rijkswaterstaat department East-Netherlands, we performed current measurements in a groyne field and discharge measurements at five cross sections in the river Waal during the high discharge event between 27 February and 6 March. The measurements are used to study the effect of the lowering of the groynes for a better throughflow of the Rhine in the Netherlands. We used our survey boats MS Griend and MS Walrus.

Waterboard Stichtse Rjinlanden Purchase Q-boat and StreamPro
The waterboard Stichtse Rijnlanden purchases an OceanScience Q-boat and a Teledyne RD Instruments StreamPro. The systems will be used for inland discharge measurements. The waterboard use our ViSea software for data-acquisition.

Aqua Vision Perform Environmental Monitoring for Groningen Seaports
Groningen Seaports want to deepen Eemshaven in Groningen, the Netherlands. However, the deepening dredging works may not disturb the fragile ecosystem of the Waddenzee. Aqua Vision performed the environmental monitoring work using the ADCP and our Plume Detection Toolbox.

The Dutch Ministry of Transport and Public Works purchased 30 Citadel CT-EK sensors and 2 Citadel CTD-NV sensors, both manufactured by Teledyne RD Instruments

Ministry of Transport and Public Works Purchase ViSea software
The department of South-Holland of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works purchased 2 ViSea DPS licences and 1 ViSea DAS license. These are used to perform, process and present 13-hour tidal current measurements. This purchase means that nearly all departments of the Ministry now use our software.

MS Walrus Welcomed to the Aqua Vision Survey Fleet
Our newly build survey vessel MS Walrus was christened on 30 october 2009. It will be used for inland hydrographic measurements and can be leased.

Aqua Vision a Partner in Ferry-Discharge Monitoring Project
Aqua Vision delivers discharge data based on a ferry - discharge monitoring system on the Meuse river near the village of Megen by order of Rijkswaterstaat department Limburg. The project is a feasibility test to use ferry-monitoring systems as regular discharge monitoring sites. Aqua Vision software is used to automate the discharge calculation.

ViSea PDT Used by DHI Denmark
DHI Denmark was awarded the contract for the construction of a road connection over the Fehmarn Sund between Denmark and Germany. They use ViSea PDT to monitor the sediment spill during dredging work.

Weser and Ems Estuaries Surveyed by Aqua Vision
Aqua Vision organised and performed a measurement campaign in the Weser and Ems estuaries in cooperation with Acta Marine. The campaign consisted of 7 13-hour transect measurements and 5 longitudinal moving boat measurements. The BundesAnstalt für Wasserbau and the University of Bremen will use the information for research and hydrodynamic modelling.

Flanders Hydraulics Purchase ViSea DAS
Flanders Hydraulics and GEMS International NV ordered our software packages ViSea Data Acquisition Software (DAS), Plume Detection Toolbox (PDT) and Data Presentation Software (DPS). A course has been given at the survey vessel Scheldewacht II and at the Flanders Hydraulics office.

Dutch Waterboard Order StreamPro ADCP
The dutch waterboard Roer en Overmaas and Flanders Hydraulics ordered a StreamPro ADCP. The first will perform discharge measurements in creeks whereas the second will use it to measure flow in their flumes.

Waves Array Upgrade Installed in Westerschelde
Aqua Vision installed an ADCP with Waves Array upgrade using our new bottom frame with gimbal mount. The real-time measurements are used to control the positioning of a tidal energy rotor that will be installed at the Total pier in the Westerschelde as part of the C-energy project. The data will also be used in a study on the performance of the tidal energy rotor.

The dutch waterboard "Rijn en IJssel" purchases 15 Channel Master ADCPs. They will be used for stationary discharge monitoring stations.

Aqua Vision to Install Discharge Monitoring Station on River Elbe
The Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) ordered a second discharge monitoring station. The monitoring station is based on two Horizontal ADCPs mounted on pole in the middle of the River Elbe. The two H-ADCP are mounted back to back looking toward the shore. Aqua Vision will handle the complete system integration including the data GPRS communication. Our ViSea HCT will combine the two individual data streams to one discharge value. J. Bornhöft Industriegeräte GmbH has delivered the two H-ADCPs.

The Zeeland department of the Dutch Ministry of Transport and Public Works is doing a test on the influence of a nourishment on an intertidal sandbar in the Eastern Scheldt. Aqua Vision does the data analysis and report.

Rijkswaterstaat Award Aqua Vision with Discharge Measurements
The regional department East-Netherlands of Rijkswaterstaat contracted Aqua Vision to perform the regular discharge measurements on the rivers IJssel and Waal. We measure with our own fully equipped survey vessel M.S. Griend.

ViSea DAS and PDT Sale to Hungarian Governement Agency
The South-Transdanubian Environmental Protection and Water management Directorate (DDKÖVÍZIG) purchased ViSea DAS and PDT to perform regular sediment concentration measurements on the Danube river. Aqua Vision gave a training at their headquarters in Pécs and on site at the Danube.

Austrian State Purchase Five ViSea DAS and PDT Licences
The government of the Austrian state Oberösterreich purchased five licenses for ViSea DAS and PDT. This happened after the Universität für Bodenkultur in Vienna did extensive research with our software. The software will be used for regular sediment transport measurements in the Austrian rivers of the Alps.

Measurement Campaign in Dutch Wadden Zee
By order of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat) we organized a measurement campaign in the Dutch Wadden Sea. At several locations we set out self-contained ADCPs in frames and at poles. During the winter period the ADCPs will gain water level and current information that will be used for research on the strength of the dams and dikes during extreme events.

Discharge Measurements in Fish Passages on Rhine River
By order of Rijkswaterstaat we carried out discharge measurements in fish passages in the Rhine river. The measurements are done using an ADCP mounted to a shallow water float.The results will be used for verifying the specifications of the fish passages. A certain minimal discharge is needed for fish migration.The measurements are done at different river discharges and water levels.

Purchase of ViSea PDT in China
The Yangtze Estuary Hydrology and Water Resources Survey Bureau purchased our VISEA Plume Detection Toolbox for sediment monitoring in the Yangtze River and Estuary. An on-site training has been given to the survey personnel
that is active in the Yangtze river basin.

DHI Singapore Purchase Additional ViSea PDT Licences
Following the order of multiple licenses in 2006, the Danish Hydraulic Institute (DHI) Singapore purchased four additional licenses of our ViSea Plume Detection Toolbox. DHI Water & Enviroment use the Plume Detection Toolbox for ADCP sediment measurements around the world for environmental and spill monitoring. The VISEA Plume Detection software gives real-time information on sediment concentrations at a high temporal and spatial resolution.

Monitoring of Sediment Plumes in Port of Rotterdam
By order of Port of Rotterdam we monitored the migration of sediment plumes. Dredged material from the Ports fairway was relocated to a depot where the sediment dispersed with the ebb and flood currents.The ADCP data are converted in real-time to sediment concentrations.

ADCP Discharge Measurements at 30 Locations in the Netherlands
During a period of 2 weeks we carried out ADCP discharge measurements at 30 locations in The Netherlands. The water board district Hoogheemraadschap de Stichtse Rijnlanden will use the data to verify the discharges generated by their sluice and pumping stations. The ADCP was mounted on a float.

Aqua Vision Carry Out Current and Sediment Survey in the Schelde
By order of Rijkswaterstaat Aqua Vision carried out current and sediment measurements in the Eastern Schelde, The Netherlands. Moving boat measurements were done using a 5-beam ADCP, OBS-3A, LISST and automated sampling equipment. Moreover, self-contained ADCPs have been stationed are 4 locations for a period of a month. All data were acquired and processed using our VISEA software.The results will be used to predict the potential for natural sedimentation forms such as isles and gullies.

13-hour Tidal Measurements in the Frisian Inlet, Wadden Sea
We organised a 13-hour measurement campaign in the Frisian Inlet, Wadden Sea, the Netherlands, together with Rijkswaterstaat. The goal of the measurements was to gain insight in the coastline development of the Isle of Schiermonnikoog and the outer delta of the Frisian inlet. Current velocity information was gathered using ADCPs using three research vessels. Aqua Vision managed the project and processed the data.

Current Measurements at Sewage Treatment Plant
By order of Bosman Watermanagement B.V. Aqua Vision carried out current measurements at a sewage treatment plant in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. The measurements are done by means of an ADCP at a float.The advantage of an ADCP of Teledyne RD Instruments is that one of the four beams may reflect to the steep walls of the basin. Reliable current information can be gained from the remaining three beams.

In connection with the research project "Siltation in turbid water", the Technical University of Delft organised a 13-hour measurement in the Port of Rotterdam. ViSea DAS and PDT Used in Rijkswaterstaat Measurement Campaigns
Rijkswaterstaat is developing a model for IJmuidens outer harbour. The North-Holland Department of Rijkswaterstaat organised two 13-hours measurement campaigns to gain calibration data for the model. The measurements involved current and sediment concentration measurements with an ADCP and profile measurements of turbidity, temperature and salinity. All data were acquired using ViSea DAS and the Plume Detection Toolbox.

Discharge Stations Installed on the Rhône and Saône Rivers
By order of Electricité de France (EDF) and Compagnie Nationale de Rhône (CNR) three discharge stations were realized in the Rivers Rhône and Saône. 300 kHz WorkHorse Horizontal ADCPs measure velocities that are converted to real-time discharges by our ViSea-H DAS software. The data are transferred to an EDF office through GSM communication. Moving boat discharge measurements were carried out to calibrate the H-ADCP discharge information.
